Chapter Five: Moe and the Locket
"Moe! Where have you been?" DeeDee called. She wasn't happy about her brother never coming home anymore. She knew something was up. He came home, carrying a small necklace. He was smiling at it. A very big smile.
"Out with a friend. Why?" Moe replied, still looking at the necklace.
"You aren't suppoesed to leave the house! It's dangerous in oyur Doodlebop form!"
"So? I know how to hide, if you don't remember." Moe was going at it tonight.
"It still doesn't matter! Kids can spot you easily! You're still a deep yellow-orange! It's going to be easy to see you!"
"Well, Allysa doesn't care! And neither does her family!"
"You gave our secret away! You idiot! Now Jazz will figure out! The band's ruined!" She then ran to her room, slamming the door, leaving Moe standing there shocked that his sister would actually be upset over not having to hide from someone. Rooney came out and sat him down, keeping him from falling over. Eventually he came out of it and cried. He knew Dee just didn't understand. had she known the family history, he would have been able to explain, but the family book had been destroyed. Only Rooney had been smart enough to copy it down with Pop Coran before he died, and he wouldn't show the book to anyone.
"Rooney, where's the family book?" he finally asked.
"The family book? Why would you need that?"
"Research. I'm curious to the family's history."
"Moe, there's another reason, and if you don't tell me, I'm sure Allysa will."
"No Roon. Allysa won't tell you, because she and I made a promise to hide this from whoever we see unfit to know."
"And I'm unfit?"
"Yes. This is between four people, me, Allysa, her brother, Kadyn, and her cousin Jen. It's their family matters, but a legend in their family just might be in ours, too. I need to know if it is or not."
"Top shelf to the right. It should be there." Rooney said, giving up. He decided he was going to find Allysa, so he set out for the school. When Allysa and Shayla got off the bus, he asked to speak with them. He explained that his younger brother knew them and wanted to know what secret was here. Allysa told him to back off and leave her and her sister alone, but stuck a note in his pocket when no one was looking. She had a plan. When Rooney was alone, he looked in his pocket to find the note. It read:
Trouvez le treehouse marqué avec un "D" dans la forêt. Soyez prudents, vous pouvez être attaqués. Moe et moi se trouverons présent en attendant.
-Allysa
(Find the treehouse marked with a "D" in the forest. Be careful, you may be attacked. Moe and I will be there waiting.
-Allysa)
"She's a smart one." Rooney laughed, holding the note close. He would have to put the disguise one a little while longer....
Moe stood by Allysa's locker like usual. He remembered that he couldn't be called Moe at school, so he'd have to respond to Allysa calling him Jon. How hard could that be?
"Hey, Jon? We've got trouble."
Moe nodded. He couldn't speak. Allysa looked gorgeous that day. There was something about her today. It was either the way her skirt twirled when she turned or the shine off her glasses, but something made her look, different. Good different. Like when you change the color of your shirt and it looks good, different. Anyone else wouldn't have noticed this.
"Jon?"
"Huh? Oh, sorry, you just look really good today."
"Um, thanks, but we have a problem."
"What's going on?"
"It's Kadyn."
DeeDee heard Rooney working on an invention in his room. Fat chance it would be successful. She knew that her brother failed at just about anything he did to try and disguise the band. They should have only stuck with the original disguises. Shortly after, he left for some appointment. That gave DeeDee time to snoop around in Moe's room, as pay back for ruining the band. She went into the room, and was shocked to see it clean. Her brother was changing? She saw the family book laying on his bed and picked it up. A page was bookmarked. The book suddenly opened, showing her the Legend of Lilly. DeeDee was shocked at the truth that she beheld. the legend spoke of a family that ran from death by fire. The group that wanted them dead then kidnapped the youngest son of the family and trained him to kill his family. Three years later, the mother and her youngest daughter went into a forest. The mother gave herself up to protect her family, leaving the youngest daughter alone in the family tree house. The daughter was to first find true love within the Doodle family, then end the war between the two groups. She closed the book and wondered if Moe was the one the daughter fell in love with. She went to her room and cried, knowing she may have almost ruined a chance to end a war. To end the deaths of so many people. To end a bit of violence in the world. And then Peyton came in and comforted her, knowing the family history well enough to know what she just read. And she was proud.
"Allysa! Where's my dress?" Shayla called.
"Closet. My locket?" Allysa replied.
"Missing."
"Wrong, under my skin." Allysa said, as a matter of factly.
"Yeah, right." Shayla responded, sarcastically.
Allysa ran out the door then, hurrying to meet with Moe. Rooney was at the treehouse. He greeted me and said congradulations. Allysa laughed and lead him up. Moe wasn't there yet. Strange. she opened the small door on the floor and pulled out her family book and let Rooney read it. As he read, he began to cry. He read about the deceased of the family; he read about the lost hearts, the lost minds, the lost children, everything! He remembered the one thing he left out in the copy of the family book. He left out the missing brother of his father. Moe then walked in. Everything fell apart. Moe got so angry. He yelled at Rooney to get out and leave them alone. He didn't want any one messing with him and his girl, or at least soon to be, if he could get the courage to tell her. Rooney didn't leave.
"Moe, I know stuff that you need."
"I want you to leave, and let me speak with Allysa myself."
"Okay, fine. Let me know if you need any help." Rooney left.
"What was all that about?" Allysa said.
"I wanted to give you something, but I wanted to be alone to give it to you." he replied, blushing.
"Well, what is it?"
Moe pulled out the necklace he had. The locket that showed up around Allysa's neck when she changed. A gold heart shaped locket that held a picture of her mother inside, with Allysa standing right next to her. Allysa's eyes were filled with tears. She threw her arms around Moe and cried. She couldn't do anything else. Moe wrapped his arms around Allysa gently. He felt a shock go through his whole being when she touched him. The way her skin felt against his was outstanding. She was soft, gentle, fragile. He took care not to hurt her. He took care to show her that he was there for her. He didn't want to let go, ever. They stayed there all night, eventually falling asleep. When they awoke, Jen stood over top of them.
"What are you guys doing?" Jen said, a bit angry.
"Did we fall asleep here? Opps!" Allysa giggled.
"Sorry about that. Here." Moe appologized, placing the locket around Allysa's neck. Just then, Allysa kissed him. Moe sat there, shocked. He didn't expect her to kiss him. He didn't expect it at all.
The locket changed everything.
