Chapter 4
The Secret Comes Out
Maxine was in the stables brushing her horse when she saw Deborah walk by. When she did walk by Deborah gave her the same look she's giving to Maxine since she first met Maxine.
MAXINE (talking to her horse): Deborah has giving me that same look since she first met me, Maxie.
Maxine saw Deborah walked into Max's office.
MAXINE (talking to her horse): I wondering what she is doing up there?
Just then Max walked by.
MAX: Hi, Maxine. Hi, Maxie.
MAXINE: Hi, Max.
Maxie neighed.
MAX: What were you looking at when I walked up?
MAXINE: I just saw Deborah walk into your office but before when she walked by me she gave me the same look that she has giving to me since she first met me.
MAX: Well could you go tell her that I need to see her right away.
MAXINE: Oh ok, Max. Could you finish brushing Maxie for me?
MAX: Yeah sure I can.
MAXINE: Thanks, Max. You're the best.
A few minutes later Max continued to brush Maxie and Maxine went up to Max's office. When Maxine arrived at Max's office she noticed that Deborah was on the computer on a website about Maxine's family. Maxine clears her throat.
DEBORAH: Maxine what are you doing here?
MAXINE: I think the real question is, what are you doing here?
DEBORAH: Nothing, nothing at all.
MAXINE: It doesn't look like you're doing nothing.
DEBORAH: Oh ok. I'm was searching online for something.
MAXINE: What are you searching for exactly?
DEBORAH: Well if you must know I was searching your family name and I came across this website about your family.
MAXINE: My family doesn't have a website at all.
DEBORAH: Are you sure?
MAXINE: Yes.
DEBORAH: Well the family on this website has the same names as you and your brothers and sisters. Also it says that you are princes and princesses.
MAXINE: Then you must be looking at the wrong family because my family isn't royal.
DEBORAH: Well I just you could be right, but...
MAXINE (interrupting): But what?
DEBORAH: There are no pictures of them at all.
MAXINE: Maybe they didnt' want their pictures to be online so that if they go somewhere, where no one knows them they won't be treated like royality they'll probably be treated like everyone else.
DEBORAH: I still think that this is your family.
MAXINE: Alright, it is my family.
DEBORAH: I knew it. Just wait until I tell everyone that you are a princess.
MAXINE (as she steps in between Deborah and the door): If you tell anyone I'll make it so that you won't see your precious Max ever again!
DEBORAH: You don't have the power to do that.
MAXINE: Oh yes I do. Remember I'm princess.
DEBORAH: You can't make me not see Max.
MAXINE: I can too. You won't see Max if you tell my secret to everyone. If you want to see Max keep this a secret. Besides I have to be the one that tells everyone.
DEBORAH: Who says?
MAXINE: The King and Queen. My parents.
DEBORAH: Ok, I won't tell your secret.
MAXINE: Ok, but if I find out that you went behind my back and told my secret. You will never see your precious Max ever again.
DEBORAH: Please don't do that. I have to see Max. I promise I wont' tell anyone.
MAXINE: Speaking of Max, he told me that he needs to talk to you.
DEBORAH: About what?
MAXINE: I don't know he just told me that he needs to talk to you and that's about it.
A few minutes later Deborah went to go see what Max wanted her for and Maxine went back to her horse. So after Max told Deborah what he wanted to tell he went over to where Maxine was.
MAX: Hey, Maxine.
MAXINE: Oh, hi, Max.
MAX: Maxine, I just wanted to let you know that this Friday there's going to be a dance.
MAXINE: That's great. I love to dance and so does my sister Stephanie.
MAX: I was wondering do you and your brothers and sisters have cowboy or cowgirl outfits.
MAXINE: No we don't. Why?
MAX: Well that's because everyone has to dress-up like a cowboy ot cowgirl for the dance.
MAXINE: Well we don't have any outfits like that at all.
MAX: I could take you and your brothers and sisters shopping for your cowboy and cowgirl outfits.
MAXINE: Really, Max?
MAX: Yes really.
MAXINE: Thanks, Max. You're the greatest.
MAX: You're welcome. When do you think we should go shopping?
MAXINE: I was thinking maybe Wednesday because the dance is on Friday.
MAX: That's a good idea. Ok, I'll go tell your brothers and sisters.
MAXINE: Can my friend Jan come too? She doesn't own a cowgirl outfit either.
MAX: Yeah sure she can come.
MAXINE: Ok, why you go tell my brothers and sisters, I'll go tell Jan.
So Max went to go tell Maxine's brothers and sisters while Maxine went to go tell her friend. A few minutes after axine told Jan about the dance and that they are going shopping with Max on Wednesday to get their cowgirl outifts Deborah walked over to Maxine.
DEBORAH: There you are Maxine. I've been looking everywhere for you.
MAXINE: Well you found me. What do you want?
DEBORAH: Well the Saddle Club told me that they need help cleaning out the stables before the dance on Friday.
MAXINE: Can't they do it themselves?
DEBORAH: They can, but it will go faster if they had some more people helping.
MAXINE: When do they need help cleaning the stables?
DEBORAH: Wednesday.
MAXINE: Oh, no can do.
DEBORAH: Why not?
MAXINE: That's because I'm busy on Wednesday.
DEBORAH: Doing what?
MAXINE: Well, Max is taking me shopping...
DEBORAH (interrupting): He's taking only you shopping?
MAXINE: You didn't let me finish. He's taking me shopping along with my brothers and sisters and my friend Jan.
DEBORAH: I think that you should stay here and help the Saddle Club clean the stables.
MAXINE: Let's just see what Max has to say about this.
So Maxine and Deborah went over to where Max was.
MAXINE: Max could you tell your wife that I can't help the Saddle Club clean the stables on Wednesday because you're taking me shopping?
MAX: Deb, she's right about that. I am taking her along with her brothers and sisters and her friend Jan shopping for new outfits for the dance on Friday.
DEBORAH: But, the Saddle Club needs help with the stables.
MAX: The Saddle Club can handle it themselves. By the way what did I tell you about telling Maxine what she can't or can't do?
DEBORAH: That I have no right telling her what to do, but I just don't like her hanging out with you, Max.
MAX: Tough. If you don't like it than somehow you are going to have to just get use to and live with it. Besides Maxine is a great girl.
Maxine blushes a little when Max said that.
MAXINE: Thanks, Max.
The next two days go by and it's now Wednesday and Max, Maxine, Janiqua and Maxine's brothers and sisters are going shopping for their cowboy and cowgirl outfits. An hour later they are back at Pine Hollow with their new outfits. Maxine bought a blue cowgirl mini dress for the dance, black cowgirl boots and a beige cowgirl hat. The rest for the week goes by and now it's the day of the dance. Everyone is getting ready for the dance.
STEPHANIE: So Maxine are you going to ask Max to dance with you?
MAXINE: I was thinking about that.
TRIXIE: How are you going to ask him to dance with you?
MAXINE: You'll have to wait and see about that one Trixie.
Now everyone is at the dance. Maxine walks up to Max's cousin Drew because he's the DJ for the dance.
MAXINE: Hey, Drew.
DREW: Oh, hi, Maxine.
MAXINE: Drew, I was wondering if you can play "Can I Have This Dance?" so that I can dance with Max to the song.
DREW: You want to dance with my cousin.
MAXINE: Yeah.
DREW: Why?
MAXINE: Well don't tell him this but I'm in love with him. I know that he's married but I have this feeling that it won't last between Max and Deborah.
DREW: How do you know that?
MAXINE: Have you seen them two together lately?
DREW: Yeah I have and?
MAXINE: And they haven't been getting along and they have been arguing with each other a lot lately.
DREW: Yeah sure I can play that song for you. When?
MAXINE: I'll let you know by looking at you and I'll nod my head.
A few minutes later Max walked over to Maxine and Deborah was with her. Maxine looked at Drew and gave him a nod and the song "Can I Have This Dancing?" started playing.
MAXINE: Hey, Max.
MAX: Yes, Maxine.
Maxine held out her hand to Max and started singing.
MAXINE (singing): Take my hand, take a breath
Pull me close and take one step
Keep your eyes locked on mine,
And let the music be your guide.
MAX (singing): Won't you promise me MAXINE (singing): (now won't you promise me, that you'll never forget)
MAX (singing): We'll keep dancing MAXINE (singing): (to keep dancing) BOTH (singing): wherever we go next
It's like catching lightning the chances of finding someone like you
It's one in a million, the chances is feeling the way we do
And with every step together, we just keep on getting better
MAXINE (singing): So can I have this dance MAX (singing): (can I have this dance)
BOTH (singing): Can I have this dance
MAX (singing): Take my hand, I'll take the lead
And every turn will be safe with me
Don't be afraid, afraid to fall
You know I'll catch you through it all
And you can't keep us apart MAXINE (singing): (even a thousand miles, can't keep us apart)
MAX (singing): 'Cause my heart is MAXINE (singing): (cause my heart is) BOTH (singing): wherever you are
It's like catching lightning the chances of finding someone like you
It's one in a million, the chances is feeling the way we do
And with every step together, we just keep on getting better
MAXINE (singing): So can I have this dance MAX (singing): (can I have this dance)
BOTH (singing): Can I have this dance
MAXINE (singing): Oh no mountains too high enough, BOTH (singing): oceans too wide
'Cause together or not, our dance won't stop
MAXINE (singing): Let it rain, BOTH (singing): let it pour
What we have is worth fighting for
You know I believe, that we were meant to be
It's like catching lightning the chances of finding someone like you MAXINE (singing): (like you)
BOTH (singing): It's one in a million, the chances is feeling the way we do MAXINE (singing): (way we do)
BOTH (singing): And with every step together, we just keep on getting better
MAXINE (singing): So can I have this dance MAX (singing): (can I have this dance)
BOTH (singing): Can I have this dance
Can I have this dance
Can I have this dance.
MAX: WOW, Maxine you're a great dancer.
MAXINE: Thanks Max. You're a great dancer too.
MAX: Hey about we do some line dancing?
MAXINE: That's a great idea and I know the perfect song to line dance to.
Maxine goes over to Drew and tells him to play "Any Mine of Mine" by Shania Twain. As they are line dancing to the song Maxine is also singing the song.
This is what a woman wants...
Any man of mine better be proud of me
Even when I'm ugly he still better love me
And I can be late for a date that's fine
But he better be on time
Any man of mine'll say it fits just right
When last year's dress is just a little too tight
And anything I do or say better be okay
When I have a bad hair day
And if I change my mind
A million times
I wanna hear him say
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I like it that way
Any man of mine better walk the line
Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time
I need a man who knows, how the story goes
He's gotta be a heartbeatin' fine treatin'
Breathtakin' earthquakin' kind
Any man of mine
Well any man of mine better disagree
When I say another woman's lookin' better than me
And when I cook him dinner and I burn it black
He better say, mmmm, I like it like that yeah
And if I changed my mind
A million times
I wanna hear him say
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I like it that way
Any man of mine better walk the line
Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time
I need a man who knows, how the story goes
He's gotta be a heartbeatin' fine treatin'
Breathtakin' earthquakin' kind
Any man of mine
Let me hear you say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I like it that way
Any man of mine better walk the line
Better show me a teasin' squeezin' pleasin' kinda time
I need a man who knows, how the story goes
He's gotta be a heartbeatin' fine treatin'
Breathtakin' earthquakin' kind
Any man of mine
You gotta shimmy shake
Make the earth quake
Kick, turn, stomp, stomp, then you jump
Heel to toe, Do Si Do
'Til your boots wanna break
"Til your feet and your back ache
Keep it movin' 'til you just can't take anymore
Come on everybody on the floor
A-one two, a-three four
Hup two, hum
If you wanna be a man of mine, that's right
This is what a woman wants...
An hour later the dance was over and Maxine, her sisters and her best friend where in their room where they are staying with Max.
JANIQUA: So what did it feel like dancing with Max?
STEPHANIE: Yes tell us.
TRIXIE: Don't leave anything out.
MAXINE: It was so wonderful. He is a great dancer. He is also a great singer.
TRIXIE: Is that all?
MAXINE: No.
STEPHANIE: What else is there?
MAXINE: Well when we were dancing together it was so magical.
JANIQUA: How magical was it?
MAXINE: So magical that it felt like Max and I were the only two people at the dance and that no one else was even there.
STEPHANIE: That does sound magical.
JANIQUA: And romantic.
MAXINE: You're right Jan is was kind of romantic too.
Later that night Max is in his bed dreaming about Maxine and divorcing Deborah. Maxine is in her bed dreaming about Max and him getting a divorce from Deborah. Janiqua was in her bed dreaming about Jean-Paul.
